People always compliment me on my great garage and ask where I got my plans. The truth is that for a long time I was very frustrated because I had a dream garage in mind and knew I needed good plans. The only plans I found cost several hundred dollars and I was simply not willing to spend that kind of money for something I wasn't sure about.

After You Build Your Garage Keep It Tidy - Here Are Some Tips
Extra space in garages tends to get used as a dumping ground for possessions that we no longer use but cannot bring ourselves to throw away. This gets even worse if the garage is not used for its original purpose and the boxes start to take over.
Whether you do keep your car in it or not, there are ways to figure out how to organize a garage that will make the best use of this valuable extra storage space – and which might even encourage hoarders to throw out some of those old boxes.
If you do have a car that is kept in the garage, then storage space is immediately limited to the walls, and perhaps a small floor area. Shelving is vital and can be used to hold everything from tools to sports equipment. So that the right item can be located quickly, organize your storage system so that home repair tools are kept together and apart from car repair tools, and so on.
Fix hooks to the wall for a quick and simple way to store garden furniture during the winter months; and do not forget that there is plenty of unused space on the ceiling too. Strong hooks there can provide out-of-the-way storage for everything from stepladders to bicycles.
Many people either do not use their garages for storing the family vehicle, or their home has a double garage – one side of which is clutter-free and has room for the car while the other side is chaos. If you do have more room in your garage than just wall and ceiling space then, rather than allowing stuff to collect on the floor, why not assemble free-standing shelving units for the middle of the free space?
These can be secured to the floor if they need to be built up high. Again, organization is the key, so try and keep gardening equipment in one area of the garage, Christmas decorations in another and camping equipment in a third. These are just a few examples of the kinds of items currently stored in garages. Even though they are only required once or a couple of times a year, it is still frustrating when hours are wasted searching through dozens of boxes for the one thing that is actually needed.
Having an organized garage will not only make it easier for home owners to quickly lay their hands on whatever they need, but is also a good excuse to get rid of many of those items that will never be needed again. Besides, clutter is not just unpleasant to look at; it can actually be a safety hazard.
Storing flammable liquids properly, on good quality shelving rather than in a pile of cardboard boxes, can help keep your home and your family safe. A tidy and organized garage is also a great asset when it comes to selling your property. If someone has taken the time to put up good quality shelving in an area that is usually just wasted space, prospective buyers will see this as a real positive.
